Shott Cup Trip

Westmanstown BC travelled to the Causeway BC in Dungarvan on 24th July for the quarter final of the Shott Cup.

While they were not the winners, a great day out was enjoyed by players and supporters.

The Causeway club showed great hospitality with refreshments on arrival and a delicious evening meal after the match.

Ladies in the Final of the Junior Cup

Congratulations to the Westmanstown ladies who have reached the final in the Junior Cup. They had a decisive win against Greystones on Friday July 22nd in CYM. They now play against Crumlin in the final on Sunday 21st August at a neutral venue, yet to be arranged.  A date for your diary as supporters will be welcome.

Get Together of Lady Members

Recently, the ladies committee organised a get together for our lady members who have retired from league play. These members had not got together since before Covid hit us. Up to then, they had been very active members, both by playing on leagues and on committees for very many years.

We enjoyed a beautiful Afternoon Tea and a short roll-up afterwards. Everyone enjoyed meeting up after so long apart. The committee hope that the ladies can arrange to meet more often over the summer.

Thanks to Sheila Gleeson for the photos.

End of Season 2021

The green is now closed for winter. In spite of the pandemic and restrictions 2021 proved to be a very successful season for Westmanstown Bowling Club.

Mixed results in Cup Competitions.

Westmanstown were in action in cup competitions over the weekend (14/15 August 2021).

On Saturday we were at home against Cavehill B.C. from Belfast in the semi-final of the IBA Junior Cup. It was a 10 player game with 2 pairs and 2 trips. Westmanstown came out on top winning all four rinks with an overall score of 82 to 52 points. The visitors were very appreciative of the hospitality after their long journey and commented “even the losers went home happy”. Thanks to all, both on and off the green, for making this a very enjoyable day.

On Sunday morning we were involved in the Division 4/5 Cup (Shott Cup). Despite our best efforts we were unable to overcome a very strong Dunlaoghaire side that also enjoyed home advantage.

Then in the afternoon it was the turn of the Division 3 team to travel to Blackrock to take part in the O’Dee Cup. This time we were up against I.C.I.C.Y.M. and while this was a closer affair we were not able to get the better of the men from Cork.

Adrian Doyle made his way to all three matches to capture the action and above are some of his best shots. Thanks Adrian.
